Winter approaching, must be scary for all those having dry skin, and time for a little more care for most of the people having dry and itchy skin, hence the term winter itch. There could be several reasons behind the skin dryness! But the winter skin just aggravates the situation causing dry skin and cracking lips. So why does this happens? Dry Skin Winter season is characterized by windy weather with low humidity and strong harsh winds that deplete skins natural lipid layer that helps protect from drying out. Meanwhile, dry air from furnaces all extricates remaining moisture of the skin. Before we talk about anything, your goal should not be to moisturize it from outside but to retain the natural moisture produce by the skin. Avoid hot water bath because it robs the moisture causing dry skin, better take lukewarm shower. Keep in mind that hot tub combined with drying chemical is sort of torture for the skin.
Dry Skin Tip: Moisturize After Showers or Hand Washing Moisturizer is the key to soft, supple skin. Apply product when skin is slightly damp. For best effect, pat skin dry instead of rubbing with your towel before application. The skin on my legs can drive me crazy with itchiness all year round. I find I prefer oils to lotions on for the body. Simply massage the coconut oil all over the body. Trust me, this will get rid of dry, itchy skin and the oil isn’t sticky like lotion tends to be. Antibacterial soap in public places can be harsh on hands, so I keep hand salve in my purse. To keep cuticles soft, massage in olive oil. Extra tip: I love keeping facial moisturizer and Evian spray on my desk at work. Dab on moisturizer. The water locks in moisture and leaves my skin refreshed even in harsh office heat.
